[...] To Be Invisible
Much of the work in this exhibition, […] To Be Invisible, was constructed during my time as the visiting resident artist at the Garage Door Gallery and is a continuation of my interest in sensory systems, more specifically, the transient and almost magical perception of light and color. The series is asking us to think about how patterns can function as a shared system of understanding—providing guidance and a means of navigating our way in the world—and what happens when those patterns of stability are disrupted. Does this disruption push us to be more attuned to our surroundings, providing us the ability to see the previously unseen? I’d like to think so. I’m using color and light, in combination with the unique material qualities of mesh, to obscure the predictability of pattern and instead, encourage among us, a new level of awareness, one that can also function as a means of navigation.
